The industry sectors have been identified because of the potential for job creation. South Africa provides a cost-effective offering to international companies through a large pool of skilled labour, compatible language, accent preferences, government support, and fast-improving infrastructure growth. The Consortium recognizes that transforming the economy requires the significant participation and meaningful inclusion of people in areas of deprivation prioritizing “townships” into the mainstream economy of the country. One of the challenges faced by the employees in these sectors is that most of the people who work in these industries are people who come from the townships, and most of these jobs are situated in cities and towns and they spend a lot of money commuting from the townships. The Consortium aims to appoint a panel of service providers to Upskill these individuals within these industry operations in the townships to address this challenge and also create opportunities for unemployed youth.
